REPRESENTATIVE 0% APR
You may have seen that the FCA updated its handbook (CONC 3.5.3) recently to make clear that credit ads no not need to include a full Representative Example where the APR is genuinely 0%. This is a positive change and, whilst we worked within the restrictions of the previous guidelines to minimise occasions where a full Representative Example was needed, the FCA's new guidance makes things a lot simpler.
To clarify, as before, in motor ads if you state any payment (e.g. a monthly amount) that relates to a 0% finance deal, you need to provide sufficient information for the listener to establish the full cost of the vehicle. In practice, this means how many months, the deposit and final payment (if applicable). You don’t need to include everything that goes to make up the FCA-defined Representative Example which the FCA's previous regulatory guidelines indicated or the specific phrase "Representative 0% APR".
